Since getting this tip from the internet about a month ago, I've never looked back. Basically, the tip is to use conditioner to wash your hair instead of shampoo. Apparently there is a cleaning agent in conditioner, but it's not as strong as in shampoo, and despite not producing a lather it does get your hair clean, but most importantly it doesn't strip your hair and leaves it in fantastic condition! I've been washing my hair everyday in conditioner for a few weeks now, and my hair has never been softer or shinier. Also I colour my hair, and the colour has not faded so much as it has when I used to shampoo it everyday. And of course the other bonuses are that it saves time and money! Give it a go- you won't be disappointed. One thing to note though- apparently you shouldn't use a conditioner with silicone in it (just look in the ingredients- anything ending in 'cone' is silicone).
