Colouring hair: wear gloves!

Over the past few years I have become a dab hand at camouflaging my grey hairs. It is essential though to always wear gloves to protect your hands and nails from chemical reaction and staining. I also apply a layer of E45 around my hairline to protect my forehead. I am sure Vaseline would also be a good alternative.

Re: Colouring hair: wear gloves!

I used to dye my hair blond twice a year. It looked totally natural. No one every suspected that I dyed it. I always used gloves, but I never did anything to keep it from staining my hairline. Is it just the dark dyes that do that? My fiance has been wanting me to dye my hair again, but I just don't really want to. My hair used to be so dried out bc of it.

I think dark dyes actually are very dark and stain easily because they have to cover up ligher hair. Lighter colors (like blond) use peroxide our something else to change the color of the actual hair, so it doesn't stain your skin. You are right though, using dark dyes without gloves is askng for a lot of trouble!

If coloring at home, we should apply the dyes using gloves in a well-ventilated room, and should not leave solutions on for excessive periods of time.
