Is it possible to achieve this look (with dead straight hair) without resorting to a perm?

My hair is dead straight :( (not a good thing for me)i'd love to have naturally curly hair !

I keep my hair straight, but sometimes wish I could imitate the victory rolls or girly pomps of the era. My guy, a pure rockabilly, says all it takes are some bobby pins, but I haven't got the patience...I know my hair isn't quite long enough in the right places right now either, so I hope when the time comes I can find a stylist that can help me achieve this look!
