It doesn't have much of a smell. There is a perfume listed on the ingredients, but to my nose the main thing I picked up was the alcohol.

I think you are right Melissa. This seems like a gimmick with little behind it - though if anyone has anything to add I would be interested to hear. I am not sure what happens to the snails after the mucous has been extracted. I suppose it would be possible to simply let them go.
