Chilean snail slime - the new miracle cream?
Modified By Fi on 28/04/2008 06:55:13)

I can't believe this one, but could Chilean snail slime be the new miracle anti-ageing cream?

Well jars of DE TUINEN SNAIL GEL have just hit the UK at Holland & Barrett and they are are moving off the shelves at rather more than snail's pace!

According to its makers, this product - made I hasten to add from the trails of Chilean snails can help tackle the two major beauty woes: acne and wrinkles. Apparently, not only does the slime have antibacterial properties (thus helping tackle spots), but it is rich in naturally occurring allantoine, collagen and elastine which helps keep the spring in your skin.

It claims you can see results within a couple of weeks if used 2 or 3 times a day.

RRP £19.99 from www.hollandandbarrett.com

As desperate as I am for the blemishes to go away, I can't be tempted by the thought of snail gel as the solution!

Re: Chilean snail slime - the new miracle cream?

I have just got hold of a sample of this. There were a couple of things I really didn't like the look of the INCI list. For a start it contains alcohol - hardly a good ingredient for an anti-wrinkle cream. It also contains a formaldehyde generating preservative. This is unlikely to do you a great deal of harm, but it is a carcinogen. It also contains sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). You can read what I think about that in detail on my website, but suffice to say it won't do your skin any good. Brands like Neals Yard and Artful Teasting get by just fine without these kinds of ingredients. Sticking with old fashioned materials in a premium priced product is just poor.

Thanks beautyscientist for this excellent information on the 'snail gel' ingredients. I will check out your website tonight for the full details.

Yuck. Just sounds like another straight-from-nature fad to me.

Even if it worked, I'm not sure I could put snail slime on my face. Icky! Just because something occurs in nature doesn't mean we should put it on our bodies.
