Re: Detox Patches

Detox was briefly mentioned in Jan. on BSS - I have pasted the previous comments below:

From Terrixx:
I am afraid i only seem to detox when i am ill!

Am thinking about trying out the new Detox patches available in Campaign 4 from Avon. They look worth giving a try. I will post my feedback once done xx

From Fi:

Hi Terri

I have had the Avon Detox patches stuck to the soles of my feet for the past 3 nights. What my hubby has to put up with! Like the photo in the link magazine, the pads were completely black each morning. Who knows what makes them go black (sweat, I'm guessing)

Do I feel or look any different - well NO!

Other sales leaders have complained of headaches and smelly pads but I can't say this was my experience.

Therefore I will be interested to find out what you think and very envious if you look and feel a million dollars after using them.

As Aphrodite says, I think they probably a gimmick but for novelty sake, worth trying at least once!

Re: Detox Patches

What are they supposed to do? Knowing the way the skin works I think it is highly unlikely you could speed up the release of toxins across it.

Re: Detox Patches

Hi beautyscientist

Your expertise on the forum will be very valuable.

The Avon patches say the following:

"these detoxifying patches use a blend of natural ingredients, mineral rich dead sea salts and herbal extracts which are known to clean out impurities from the body ... apply one patch to the middle of the sole of each foot before bedtime. Remove and view the detoxifying effects, discard the patch in the morning. Use for 3 consectutive nights."

I believe most of the detox patches from other beauty companies are very similiar.

Re: Detox Patches

detox

There Goes the Science Bit, a new book by PHD students and scientists from the independent trust, Sense About Science has challenged Champneys and ten other companies who sell these Detox patches.

As I know, when used, the patches turn from white to brown. However, according to biologist Aarathi Prasad, the patches contain wood vinegar, which when dampened, turns brown anyway. They believe the 'beauty' companies failed to provide evidence of scientific trails undertaken in developing and marketing these products.

As Champneys has disputed these allegations, I assume the story will continue over the next few months.

Re: Detox Patches

This is really interesting. I was just wondering about detox 'patches' earlier this week and debating whether to give them a try. The more I thought about it, the less credible it sounded.

Although a 'quick fix' is always tempting, we probably have to resign ourselves to the harder fact that detoxing needs to happen from the inside. Lots of water, healthy food and trying to live as cleanly as you can (whilst still having fun of course!) is probably the best way to detox...or is there a quick fix after all?
