What's the difference between day and night cream?
Modified By Fi on 28/02/2009 18:23:54)

What do you understand is the difference between day and night cream?

Do you bother to use a night cream?

As I suffer from regular breakouts I just tend to slap on more of my sacred E45 at bedtime!

Re: What's the difference between day and night cream?

A cream is basically a very fine mixture of oil and water and is a convenient way of applying oil to the skin. If you put a lot of oil into a cream it is better for the skin but it can take a long time to soak in and can be sticky and inconvenient to apply. For this reason, a cream that is going to be used during the day will be formulated to have a relatively low level of oil. At night you can apply more oil as you will have all night for it work.

That is it in a nutshell.

Re: What's the difference between day and night cream?

Poppet,

There are a couple I would recommend though you should try them first. Boots E45 is a good all round cream and is very reasonably priced. The only drawback is that it contains lanolin - though very very few people are allergic to lanolin in reality. Oilatum Cream is very similar to E45 but doesn't contain lanolin. Of the two I would say that the lanolin in E45 makes it better if you aren't allergic to it. If you want to try something that I formulated Artful Teasing (www.arttulteasing.com) do a Nourishing Face Cream and an unscented bath oil both of which I modestly believe are very good, though the price tag might be a bit high for regular use.

I've religiously been using Aldi's beauty bargain Siana Anti-Wrinkle creams for about 3/4 weeks now and incredibly, my skin has never looked better.  However, the day cream is far greasier than the night cream - I would have expected it to be the other way round.  Are you aware of other brands which have greasier day products?

Try new Colour B4 by Scott Cornwall, from £9.99 at Boots. It removes semi-permanent and permanent dye to return locks to their natural shade. It won't work on hair that's been lighted or bleached, though.

If your tan looks streaky or patchy, or if you just don't like the colour, try the new St Tropez Tan Detox. Simply pour some of the lemon, lavender and hazle-nut-infused oil into your bath, then massage skin with the exfoliating cloth provided to return skin to its normal tone. £25 from www.st-tropez.com
