Problems with Greasy Skin and Make-up!

Hello There- Im new to this site. Ive got a really big problem with my skin. I use far to much make up so Ive been trying to use less to make me look a little bit more natural. My ususal routine is foundation, Concealer, then powder over the top to make my skin matt. I have quite oily skin so to keep it matt all the time i would have to reapply powder every hour! Obviously this is not practical so I would love to now use too much powder and have dewey skin instead but it just feels oily all the time. If I use a Matt primer the foundation goes on really patchy on top- I do need foundation as my skin is quite uneven and I have scars from teenage spots!! any help would be much appriciated!! thankyou!!

Re: Problems with Greasy Skin and Make-up!

Your skin sounds quite similar to mine with the oiliness and scars from teenage spots, so I sympathise.

Not sure if this will be of any help, but I have recently started to use Biore Shine Control Moisturiser before applying my make up and find it really good for giving a nice smooth surface to put make up onto and also keeping the shine at bay.  Even though my skin is oily, I still get little dry patches in the winter especially and this sorts them out without being too heavily moisturising.  I have tried various primers before and did not like the effect - I don't think they keep your skin matt and made me feel too caked in make up so would rather use a mattifying moisturiser instead.

For foundation I currently use Almay Smart Shade Make Up which I find gives enough coverage to even out my skin without being too heavy.  It also blends in to match your skin tone which helps it look more natural.  I have also just started to use the matching concealer which again is enough to cover up any spots etc but not too heavy.  I then use loose powder (currently just very cheap Collection 2000) over the top to set my make up - not sure what you're currently using but I definately find loose powder much better than pressed for getting rid of shine.

A friend recently recommended mineral make up as giving good coverage but a natural look, but I haven't tried this yet.  I can imagine that as the products are mineral/powder based rather than creams or oil based products however that they could be good for oily skin.  The brand she uses is Lily Lolo which fooled me into thinking she had perfect skin!

I think the mineral make up idea is worth a try.  I know someone who has skin that sounds simliar to yours and has had good results with Inika's range.  The Lily Lolo that vglover recommends gets good reports on lots of forums as well.  The one thing I would say with mineral makeup is that the brands seem to vary much more than you might expect so you might need to do some experimenting to see which one suits you.

A couple of off the wall suggestions.  I have known a couple of women with greasy skin who have found that using olive oil as a cleanser keeps their skin less greasy for longer.  It doesn't work for everyone but it could be worth a try.

This one is even further from the mainstream. but you could try reducing the level of  glucose in your blood.  How do you do that?  Avoid sweets, sugar, bread, cooked carbohydrate rich things like pasta and potatoes.  Instead stick to fruit, raw vegetables and salads.  I know that isn't easy, but if you can do it it just might have a big impact on your skin.  If it is going to work you will see dramatic effects in a few days.
