Face products for sensitive skin

After years of blotchy skin following face masks, cleansers, etc (which I thought was normal!) I've only just discovered that I have sensitive skin!

I'm going to have to throw out all my cleansing products to buy new ones-does anyone have any recommendations for face cleansers, moisturisers etc for sensitive skin? There's an organic shop in town, but I don't like the smells of most of the ones they have, and I'm not too keen on Simple products either! I'm living in the R.O.I.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

Thanks, Evana

Re: Face products for sensitive skin

Evana, there are two possible explanations for your sensitive skin.  If you have a very active immune system you might be having an inflammatory reaction to materials that you are putting on your skin.  If this is the case I would steer clear of organic products.  The more likely explanation is that you have a skin with a poor barrier function.  If this is the case I would recommend regular moisturising, and possibly a barrier cream such as E45.  If you are patriotic Oilatum Cream is a good alternative to E45 and is manufactured in Sligo, even though it is owned by an american company.

If you prefer something natural simply use an oil like almond oil or shea butter.

Re: Face products for sensitive skin

Thanks beautyscientist!

I'm actually relieved about the organic stuff possibly being bad for my skin-it seems that everywhere I look it's being hailed as miracle cream, while personally I hate the smell of most, and have never noticed any difference! I think from what you said that the second option is the most likely cause of my blotchy skin, so I will be trying the E45/Oilatum Cream!

Thanks again for the advice!
